Situated between the Polish villages Chechlo and Bledow,
50 km from Krakow lies the
Bledow Desert (
Pustynia Błędowska). The origin of this great peculiarity has not been fully explained. It was formed partly as a result of drifting of sand and gravel during the ice age, and probably as a consequence of cutting down woods for silver and lead works in the 13
th century.
