On a desert

Situated between the Polish villages Chechlo and Bledow, 50 km from Krakow lies the Bledow Desert (Pustynia Błędowska). The origin of this great peculiarity has not been fully explained. It was formed partly as a result of drifting of sand and gravel during the ice age, and probably as a consequence of cutting down woods for silver and lead works in the 13^th century.
